My work in the Jez Lab focuses on how plants modulate hormone levels to regulate critical functions such as growth, seedling development, light signaling, drought response, and pathogen resistance. In particular, we focus on the Gretchen Hagen 3 (GH3) family of enzymes, which are responsible for controlling concentrations of major classes of hormones such as the jasmonates, auxins, and benzoates. To better understand these processes, I employ various biochemical and structural biological techniques, including enzyme kinetics assays and protein crystallography, to determine the structural underpinnings of substrate specificity and reactivity for these enzymes.
