MedPrep I - The Lecture Series

Biology And Biomedical Sciences 2651 - Spring 2021

MedPrep I (Bio 2651) is a unique, interactive lecture series taught by the central subcommittee chair on the Washington University School of Medicine admissions committee. Through a weekly 2-hour lecture, this course gives students accurate, honest, and detailed information on how to become the most competitive applicant possible to medical school. This course is particularly useful for freshman and sophomores in that it takes a deep dive into the preparation needed for one's eventual application. For this reason, the course instructor recommends that students take this course prior to their junior year. It reviews common pitfalls encountered by unsuccessful applicants and outlines every step of the application and admissions process. Students receive a comprehensive overview of the entire educational path in medicine, including medical school and residency, and the rewards and challenges of a career in medicine. Students learn about how to get involved in undergraduate research as well as the activities they might consider for the summer. They also have the opportunity to talk with current medical students and resident physicians about their life in medical school and residency, respectively. MedPrep I is a prerequisite for MedPrep II (Bio 2654), the shadowing course that takes place in the Charles F. Knight Emergency and Trauma Center of Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the main teaching hospital for the Washington University School of Medicine. Because there is no outside coursework or exams, this course can be taken with the busiest of class schedules. For this reason though, attendance at ALL classes is required. For the Spring 2021 semester, MedPrep I will be taught fully remote and taught synchronously via Zoom. A $10 course fee applies.
