Timing and Payment
Poster printing is through form submission only. We strongly encourage you to allow 5 days upon submission of the poster form for the final poster to be printed. Although our turn-around is usually within 3 days, unforeseen problems may prevent the poster from being printed, so it is best to submit as soon as it is ready. Please let us know when you will be submitting the poster, when you will need the poster, the final poster dimensions, and how you will pay for it. At this time we can only accept payment for posters using internal cost centers or funds. If your PI will be paying for it please include their name, Cost Center and Billing Number on the form.
Biology Poster Printing Form
For payment, we send invoices to the PI on a monthly basis. Please ask your PI for their fund number (usually starting with PJ, GR, or GF) so that we can charge accordingly.
If you are not using a fund, and are using the general Biology cost center, approval from Linda Hurt is required.
At this time, we do not take cash, credit, or any other means of payment. Cost Centers, and funds are the only way to pay for posters.
Total cost of a poster is based on a surcharge plus the cost per inch of the media used.

Equipment and Logistics
The Biology department has a Canon imagePROGRAF GP-4600s.
We use three different types of material:
Glossy Paper: LexJet 8 Mil Production Satin Photo Paper
Satin Paper: LexJet 8 Mil Production Gloss Photo Paper
Fabric/Banner: LexJet Poly Select Light
We have these materials in 3 sizes, 24", 36", and 42". However, since 36" is by far our most common request, there are times when certain materials in 24" and 42" sizes are not available due to unforeseen demand.
The maximum size of poster that we can print is 42 inches.
The largest fabric or paper poster rolls that we have are 42" rolls.
Most posters are printed using PowerPoint converted to PDF. We will print to a width of 24", 36", or 42" and a length that maintains the correct aspect ratio.
An aspect ratio of 4:3 is exceedingly common. This works out to 24"x32", 36"x48", or 42"x56".
No, we do not keep those on hand, but they can be purchased in the University's bookstore.
We do not offer lamination. Below is a list of providers near the Danforth campus that provide lamination services. Even if you have to print a poster here and laminate it, it will still be a fraction of what printing a poster would be elsewhere - for example, the Hi/Tec copy center charges $144 to print a 36" X 48" poster.

We advise to use the on-campus FedEx, so that WashU pricing is guaranteed. The on-campus FedEx only has a 24" poster printer, but they send their jobs all across the St. Louis area, and can print up to a 60" roll. FedEx only offers paper posters, their fabric offerings are prohibitively expensive.
Important Note: The on-campus FedEx actually beats our prices, for paper posters!
